Police estimate the value of property taken at more than $200,000
A 26-year-old woman faces 15 charges after Police said four Sunnyhills homes were burgled while the owners were away on holiday.
Police said a burglary was reported on Sunday 30 August at a Fordyce Avenue address, where a vehicle, luxury handbags and other items were taken.
Counties Manukau East Area Commander Inspector Rod Honan said that home was allegedly targeted sometime between 28 and 30 August.
“On Monday, Police were made aware of the stolen vehicle spotted travelling in the Ōtāhuhu area,” Honan said.
“The Police Eagle helicopter was able to quickly track the vehicle to an address in Mount Wellington where the sole occupant was taken into custody.”
Honan said a search of the vehicle located suspected stolen property, including luxury branded handbags, a bank card, jewellery and other personal items.
“Police also located burglary implements including bolt cutters, gloves, screwdrivers and other tools, along with a quantity of suspected methamphetamine,” he said.
Police said they executed search warrants at Bucklands Beach and Mount Eden addresses and a Mount Roskill storage unit, where several items of interest were located.
Honan said investigators were also making enquiries into other burglaries in the area earlier in August, particularly in Manor Park.
Police estimated the value of the items taken at more than $200,000, Honan said.
“Enquiries remain ongoing; however we are pleased to be able to lay a significant number of charges in relation to this burglary,” he said.
The charges against the woman include receives property, unlawfully in building, dangerous driving and possession of methamphetamine.
Honan said Police were not ruling out further charges or arrests.
She has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Manukau District Court on 17 September.
