One person has been seriously injured after a car crashed into a utility pole in Flat Bush on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash on Murphys Road at 3.40pm, Police said.
The Howick & Eastern Post was at the scene as Serious Crash Unit investigators worked around a silver sedan that had hit the pole opposite the entrance to Murphys Bush.
The pole had been ripped out of the ground and was lying across the car’s bonnet.
A local resident watching from the roadside, who did not want to be named, told the Howick & Eastern Post they were concerned about the speed of traffic on the road.
“Look at how fast he hit that pole. It’s completely ripped from the ground. I can’t believe how much force it would take to make that much damage.”
The resident said they were saddened for the driver.
The car’s right-side doors had been taken off, and the resident said it looked as though emergency services had removed them during the initial rescue.
Several fire appliances were at the scene, along with at least six Police vehicles and a team of investigators.
Murphys Road was closed between Flat Bush School Road and Redoubt Road, and drivers trying to travel along it were turned around.
Police said the Serious Crash Unit had been advised.
