Todd Corporation group chief executive Evan Davies has been presented with his insignia as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit by Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro.
Mr Davies, of Auckland, was named in the King’s Birthday Honours list published on 1 June for services to business and governance.
The Governor-General’s office published photographs of his investiture on Monday.
As managing director of Todd Property, Mr Davies led the company’s development of Ormiston Town Centre in Flat Bush.
When construction of the main centre began in 2018, he said the Ormiston community was experiencing “phenomenal growth”.
“The town centre is going to be a massive transformation for the area,” he said.
“It’s going to create an exciting new focal point for the community and we are really excited to see it begin to take shape.”
Todd Property delivered the $200 million-plus centre on Council-owned land, in partnership with the Council’s then development agency, Panuku Development Auckland.
The first stage, a Pak’nSave supermarket, opened at the end of 2015.
The main centre opened in March 2021, with New World, The Warehouse and a Hoyts cinema among its anchor tenants.
At the opening, Mr Davies said the team had “set out with a clear vision to create a space for the community to occupy and make their own”.
“At opening we have delivered the bones of what was promised: a place for the community with high-quality and thoughtful design, generous and engaging public spaces and everyday convenience,” he said.
“Post-opening, we will continue working hard to bring new, worthwhile and interesting experiences to this community.”
The centre is now also home to the temporary Flat Bush Library, which opened in April this year.
Mr Davies joined Todd as managing director of Todd Property in 2008, and has also overseen its Stonefields, Long Bay and Pegasus Town developments.
Before that he was the inaugural chief executive of SkyCity Entertainment Group, where he oversaw the building of the Sky Tower.
He was named Deloitte Top 200 Chief Executive of the Year in 2001, the same year SkyCity won Company of the Year.
He chairs the Tamaki Regeneration Company and the finance committee of the Auckland Arts Festival, and is a director of the Auckland City Mission.
He is also a trustee of the Melanesian Mission Trust Board and the Anglican Trust for Women and Children.
His Government appointments have included chairing the Health Capital Investment Committee and Canterbury’s Hospital Redevelopment Partnership Group.
He has also been deputy chair of the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board and a board member of Waterfront Auckland.
