One grant is for artists, the other for architects, and both need a substantial connection to East Auckland
Uxbridge Arts and Culture in Howick will give $5,000 apiece to two people under its 2027 fellowships, with applications opening on Monday 5 October.
The Uxbridge Creative Fellowship is for emerging artists and creative practitioners who have shown excellence and are at a turning point in their work, the centre said.
It is open across the disciplines, from visual and applied arts and design to performance, music, moving image and creative writing.
The second award, the Uxbridge Malcolm Smith Architecture Fellowship, is for an early-career architect, an architecture student or a researcher.
It honours Malcolm Smith (1930 to 2010), the architect and community advocate whose leadership helped establish Uxbridge.
The centre’s gallery also carries his name.
Either grant can pay for researching, developing and delivering a project, for professional development, or for travel.
Applicants must show a substantial connection to East Auckland, and creative fellowship projects have to be finished within 24 months.
The centre said it wanted proposals that were distinctive and achievable, and that were grounded in a meaningful link to the area.
Uxbridge, on Uxbridge Road beside Howick Library, said about 100,000 people use the centre each year for classes, workshops, performances, exhibitions and venue hire.
The two recipients will be confirmed on 18 December, and they will be announced publicly and paid on 1 February 2027.
How to apply
Applicants need to send a project proposal, a personal statement on their connection to East Auckland, and supporting material such as a CV or portfolio.
Letters of support can be included.
Applications go by email to Uxbridge director Paul Brobbel at director@uxbridge.org.nz.
They open on Monday 5 October and close at 11.59pm on Sunday 6 December.
