Youth Project NZ awards, backed by the Howick Local Board, recognise young volunteers aged 12 to 24 across east Auckland
Nominations are open, and close on 17 July, for awards recognising young people who volunteer across east Auckland.
“There are so many young people across our community quietly doing amazing things, volunteering, supporting others, leading projects and stepping up when help is needed,” Howick Local Board deputy chair Kai Zeng said.
“These awards are a great way to recognise those efforts and celebrate the positive impact young people are having every day. If you know someone who deserves a shout-out, make sure you nominate them.”
The Youth Volunteer Awards are run by Youth Project NZ, a charitable trust based in east Auckland, with the backing of the Howick Local Board.
They are open to young people aged 12 to 24 across East and South Auckland.
More than 30 per cent of Howick’s population is under the age of 25.
The award categories are Community, Environmental, Intergenerational, Star, Group and Kindness.
Youth Project NZ runs free programmes that connect young people with their communities, working with schools and young people from Years 0 to 13 across East and South Auckland.
In 2025, its second year, the trust visited nine primary schools and worked with nearly 4,000 students.
It also runs a youth board of young people who meet monthly and help organise community events.
The trust says involving young people in their communities builds confidence, belonging and active citizenship, and that small acts of kindness support wellbeing and self-esteem.
Nominations close on 17 July.
