Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man died in Glen Innes on Thursday afternoon.
Officers were called to Sunnymead Road about 2.45pm after reports a person had been critically injured, says Acting Detective Inspector Craig Bolton of Auckland City CIB.
“Police quickly attended and sadly, despite best efforts by emergency services, a man was pronounced deceased at the scene,” he said.
“One person was swiftly taken into custody and is assisting Police with enquiries.”
Hato Hone St John was notified of the incident at 2.47pm, and ambulance and fire crews attended.
Cordons were set up at both ends of Sunnymead Road, with residents from surrounding streets watching on from the Fenchurch Street end.
A scene guard is in place, and Police say there is not believed to be any risk to the wider public.
“Police recognise the impact an incident of this nature has on the community, and we want to reassure residents that support is being provided to the family of the deceased and those in the wider community,” Bolton said.
“Staff will also be conducting reassurance patrols in the coming days.”
Residents can expect an increased Police presence in the area while the investigation continues.
