The first pedestrian death recorded on the road since 2011, and the second death there this year
A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle on Pakuranga Road on Monday night.
Emergency services were called to the road at 9.05pm.
“Sadly, despite best efforts, the pedestrian died at the scene,” Police said on Tuesday morning.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and one manager were sent.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
It is the first pedestrian death on Pakuranga Road in NZTA’s crash records since 2011, when a pedestrian was hit by a truck at the Pigeon Mountain Road lights.
Those records run back to 2006.
They hold 27 crashes involving pedestrians on the road since the start of 2020, in which six people were seriously injured.
Monday night’s is the second death on Pakuranga Road this year.
Police said a 21-year-old man died after a crash between a car and a motorbike at Howick in May.
