Mission Heights Junior College principal Ian Morrison is leaving after 11 years to become a review officer at the Education Review Office. His last day is Friday 25 September.
The school has invited the community to a farewell assembly for him the day before, from 2pm to 2.45pm in the school gym.
“We look forward to farewelling Mr Morrison at the end of this term with students, staff, and our extended community,” the school said.
“His commitment to our students, staff, whānau, and wider school community has made a lasting contribution to our school, and we are deeply grateful for his leadership and service,” school board presiding member Namulau’ulu Anne Singh said in a letter to families on 10 August.
Associate Principal Raeesa Dada will run the school as acting principal, and the school’s board will start appointing a successor before the end of the year.
Morrison is only the second principal the college has had, taking over from its foundation principal Joan Middlemiss.
In his welcome message on the school’s website he says he is “privileged to have the opportunity to lead such an innovative, forward looking school, where children are challenged to be the best they can be in a supportive and engaging educational environment”.
“Our vision at Mission Heights Junior College is to develop confident, active, reflective and high-achieving learners and to provide innovative and evolving personalised learning contexts in response to the rapidly changing world in which our children will live,” it says.
