Police said a July break-in at a Cook Street eatery led them to six more.
Police have charged two men with seven counts of burglary after an investigation into what they said was a run of break-ins at east Auckland eateries.
Senior Sergeant Simon Cornish, of Counties Manukau East Police, said officers looking into a burglary at a popular eatery on Cook Street in Howick in July had found a further six burglaries, all with similarities.
“The team has trawled through hours of CCTV and made several enquiries in relation to these incidents,” Cornish said in a statement on Thursday 27 August.
Police said they executed two search warrants at properties in Papakura on Wednesday 26 August and took two people into custody.
Cornish said enquiries into the alleged offending were continuing, and that Police estimated the pair had stolen thousands of dollars’ worth of property.
Police have asked anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour, or who has information that may assist ongoing investigations, to contact them on 105.
“These incidents have had a real impact on local businesses,” Cornish said.
“It’s great to deliver a positive resolution and hope it provides some reassurance to the community that we will continue to hold people to account for their actions.”
Police gave the men’s ages as 45 and 53 but did not name them, or the businesses that were broken into.
Both are due to appear in the Manukau District Court on 16 September.
