The Flat Bush Ratepayers and Residents Association is seeking a new executive committee member, with expressions of interest closing on Friday 31 July.
“We have a spot open on the FBRRA Committee and we want to hear from you,” the association said in a post to Flat Bush residents.
“If you care about what happens in Flat Bush, from infrastructure to community initiatives to the projects that shape our neighbourhood, this is your chance to have a real say.”
“No experience required, just genuine interest and a willingness to show up.”
The association was formed at a residents’ meeting in Ormiston Town Centre on 12 February 2022 and incorporated three days later.
It describes itself as non-political and non-sectarian.
Its stated purposes are to speak on behalf of ratepayers and residents of the Flat Bush subdivision, to provide a forum to debate proposals for the Howick Local Board and the Council, and to present remits from that forum to local and central government.
Flat Bush is the newest of the Board’s four subdivisions, and the association says it is expected to house about 45,000 residents once complete.
The association lists its main projects as eliminating illegal rubbish dumping, environmental protection and community patrol.
Its current committee members are president Yuva Adhikary, vice president Ruth Lemmer, treasurer and secretary Adrian Naiker, and executive members Lyn Garrett and Vijay Wadhwa.
Applicants must be members of the association and a resident or ratepayer in Flat Bush.
The association also asks for a genuine interest in local community and civic matters, a willingness to attend regular committee meetings, and good communication skills.
Expressions of interest should outline the applicant’s background and why they want to join, and be emailed to fbrrainc@gmail.com by Friday 31 July.
